Light in the Shadow of a Giant

£115.00

The daily stampede of workers at end of shift leaving the Swan Hunter shipyard at Wallsend in its industrial glory days. A giant supertanker ship and cranes dominate the skyline. I saw ESSO Northumbria being built there in 1969 as we lived 5 minutes walk from the shipyard. During the 1960s, when supertankers like this 253,000-ton ship were under construction, Swan Hunter paid the daytime lighting bills of homes overshadowed by its giant hold.
